Brandon Routh
Class of 1998
Brandon Routh is a nationally recognized actor and advocate whose career has been defined as much by his memorable roles as by his authentic character and compassion. A proud 1998 graduate of Norwalk High School, Brandon excelled in academics, the arts, and athletics, embodying what it means to be a well-rounded Warrior. Whether in the pool, on stage, or in the classroom, he led with humility, kindness, and a commitment to the group over personal gain.
Best known for donning the cape as Superman in Superman Returns (2006), Brandon’s career spans film, television, voice acting, and production, with standout performances in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Scott Pilgrim, and The Flash. His accolades include the Saturn Award for Best Actor and Empire’s Best Male Newcomer.
Yet, it’s Brandon’s work off-screen that speaks the most about him. He has worked with Service Nation and lobbied for AmeriCorps, a federal agency promoting national service and volunteerism, supporting organizations like Habitat for Humanity, City Year, and After-School All-Stars. He has also championed children’s hospitals, LGBTQ+ scholarships, and educational access through galas, charity matches, and grassroots efforts. From the Mattel Children’s Hospital Dance Marathon to packing backpacks for LA youth, Brandon’s belief that “giving back at home is of the utmost priority” is reflected in all he does. His portrayal of Superman brought global recognition, but it’s his authenticity, resilience, and heart that make him a true hero to us.
Brandon Routh is more than a movie star. He’s a Norwalk story—one of perseverance, integrity, and quiet strength.

Jill Anderson
Norwalk Schools Employee, 1989–2023
Jill Anderson dedicated four decades to education, shaping generations of students and educators across Iowa. A beloved staff member at Norwalk Schools from 1989 to 2023, she began her local career coaching basketball, softball, and track at Norwalk High School before moving into leadership roles that would define her impact. She served as counselor, vice principal, and eventually principal at Norwalk Middle School and Lakewood Elementary, where she led for 20 years.
At Lakewood, Jill was known not just as a principal but as the heart of the school. Her “Lakewood Rocks!” program celebrated students and staff alike, building a culture of encouragement and pride. Her joyful spirit was best captured in her trademark cheer: “You Are”—to which every student knew to shout back—“Awesome!” Jill believed every child deserved to be seen and valued, and her school was a reflection of that belief. Whether helping a student solve a problem or energizing an assembly, she brought warmth, consistency, and genuine care to every day.

She received the prestigious Milken Educator Award, was named Disney Teacher of the Year, and was a finalist for Iowa’s Teacher and Principal of the Year.
